Micky van de Ven found the net on two occasions as Tottenham extended their winning streak on the road in the top division and handed Everton their first defeat at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton were undefeated in their five previous fixtures at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left Goodison Park behind after 133 years at the conclusion of last season.

But Tottenham's leader Van de Ven struck on two occasions from set-pieces in the opening 45 minutes to place their strong form at risk, and they were failed to mount a comeback before the midfielder - set up by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - headed home a third to seal the victory.

Jake O'Brien thought he had equalized the scores a short while after the defender's opener, glancing a bullet header past Guglielmo Vicario from an Everton corner.

Beto, in the meantime, missed a number of opportunities, while the Italian goalkeeper made a series of fine saves to guarantee the London club went five away games without defeat in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee intervened, advising Craig Pawson to check the score on the screen and the official ruled that the winger and the attacker were in offside positions and had impeded with the Spurs keeper.

This victory moves the manager's side up to third in the Premier League, five points off north London rivals and leaders the Gunners.

Everton stay 14th and sit half a dozen points ahead of the relegation zone.

Tottenham analysis: The defender excels in role at both ends of pitch

After a drab weekday display in the European competition against the French side, where they mustered a only two shots on goal, the manager opted for Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of former Toffees player the Brazilian.

The summer signing was failed to make much of an impact before being replaced for Richarlison after 60 minutes on the field, but it turns out he wasn't needed in the final outcome.

Defender the Dutchman transformed into an offensive threat to be feared.

Spurs' opening strike came from a well-worked set-piece play, with the midfielder heading the ball toward the face of goal for an free the defender to head home.

And Ven de Ven - filling in as captain in Cristian Romero's unavailability - added his next goal in added time as he outjumped Jordan Pickford to head home.

Van de Ven was just as outstanding in defence, combining effectively with Kevin Danso as the pair dealt excellently with the numerous deliveries thrown their way by the opposition.

Everton analysis: Toffees lacking finishing touch

Everton's new home had been a happy hunting ground, but it appears the novelty may have faded slightly and fans headed to the gates after the midfielder's final goal for Tottenham.

The break in the team's unbeaten home run won't be a major concern for the manager, but their attacking woes will be.

Beto and Thierno Barry - the Everton's pair of established centre-forwards - had netted only a single goal combined before Sunday's outing.

And they were unable to contribute to that poor record on a damp and dreary evening on in Liverpool.

The striker's form was summed up when he opted to overhead kick a golden opportunity from close range, despite having space and time to reposition for a more conventional shot that would have challenged Vicario.

Barry, as well, failed to make an impact after replacing Beto in the 65th minute.

It wasn't for a shortage of chance. The majority of Everton's attacks came through the winger and Ndiaye, who tirelessly delivered threatening balls into the Tottenham box.

Everton: The team head to the Stadium of Light in the top flight on early November at 8 PM.

Tottenham: Spurs go to Newcastle's ground on late October for their next round League Cup match against Newcastle.
